The sunlight shining down on the scene, reflecting and highlighting the various elements, is very good here. Pippin and Merry's determination to stand fast in a desperate hour is very great too. Your depiction of Boromir's horn is great too.

As ever the Courage of Hobbits remains a thing remarkable; I definitely couldn't look so dashing in the face of such a Threat, with my Last & Best hope of defence bleeding out at length!:o (Eek)

Spurning that flicker of cowardice to one side as it deserves, please allow me to compliment you on a most excellent illustration once again Master Abe! (I particularly like Boromir's "I may be dying but I'm not Dead yet" posture).

Not many people would hold their ground, let alone look dashing, in such a situation. Neither Tolkien or I would fault you for weak knees. It's the moments of desperation that produce heroism, at least according to Tolkien's beloved Anglo-Saxon model. One does not know how they will endure it, until that moment occurs. Pippin actually explains it later, in saying that Boromir had come to their aid, and it would just have been wrong to scamper off and leave him alone against many foes.

The fact that right next to the likes of Boromir - veritable Action Heroes amongst the Free Peoples - is probably safer than anywhere else when Orc Packs are out in strength, even when Our Hero has just been quilled with arrows thick as a hedgehog's spikes.Nod

Superb composition! I admire the patience you must've had working on this. This work is grande, especially in regards to coloring and light and shade.

Keep it up.
